About Keep Blanco Beautiful, Inc

In the Beginning…

On a hot July morning in 2000, six women met for breakfast at the Blanco Bowling Club Café with the idea of cleaning up and beautifying Downtown Blanco on their minds.

They had their breakfast and coffee. Then they rolled up their sleeves, grabbed a rototiller and chain saw, and went to work.

Starting at the corner of 4th Street and Highway 281, the newly christened “Buttanicals” (so named because of what you usually see when this beautification committee is hard at work) cleaned out the Johnson grass on the city property and replaced the weeds with beautiful flowers.

KBB's BeginningsProceeding to the corner of 3rd Street and Highway 281, these women fired up their chain saws. An existing flower bed had a cedar tree growing in it, and an old cactus so big and tough that it required the chain saw, too.

Eventually, the group tackled each corner all the way around the square, and reworked the yards at the Blanco City Hall and the Post Office.

What you see today is the fruit of the hard work of that original bunch of gals along with those who have joined the group over the years.
